Hi everyone,
I just wanted to take a moment to share with you all how
much fun I have had working in my classroom these past two weeks. It has been
such an incredible experience and I am constantly amazed at how much these kids
know and the abilities they share! At the beginning of last week, I took all
the materials and books I brought in my suitcase to my class. The teachers were
so thankful and the children especially loved the books, (Cat in the Hat was a
big hit)! The children have been spending a lot of time learning about
different insects, their jobs in the world and more. I was able to incorporate a craft in the
middle of the week that involved the children creating their own insects with
the materials I had brought! We used feathers, pipe cleaners, googly eyes,
cotton balls and some other fun materials that most of them had never seen
before, let alone used. It was a huge success! They created butterflies, bees,
spiders, centipedes, ants and lots more.
It is finally hitting me that this is my last week working
with these incredible children at this wonderful school and I can’t help but
think of how much I am going to miss them. It’s amazing how many relationships
can be built and learning experiences can happen in such a short couple of
weeks. One kid’s mom was dropping her son off in my class today and my mentor
teacher introduced me to her. The mother was excited to meet me and told me how
much Aarambha (the student) has talked about “the new teacher Katrina” at home.
Little things like that warm my heart and make this experience even better!
Just today my teacher and I had a conversation about how much I will miss it
and that returning in the future is a must.
Here are a few pictures from the insect craft!
